John makes sure Fit Testing is not a \u2018hair raising\u2019 experience.<\/h1>\n

John Moorcroft provides Fit Testing for staff at TPCH.<\/p><\/div>\n

John performs a very important role at TPCH – he provides Fit Testing for TPCH staff to ensure they have the correct size and brand of mask\/respirator for their individual face, so it provides a correct seal. Having an adequate seal protects against illness or injury due to respiratory hazards.<\/h4>\n

John works alongside Melissa Laszlo to provide Fit Testing at TPCH and on average they Fit Test 500 people a month!<\/p>\n

\u201cFit Testing is a specialised job \u2013 not anyone can do it, you need to have undertaken particular training to be appropriately qualified to perform Fit Testing,\u201d says John.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone needs to be Fit Tested annually or sooner if you have a significant change in your facial characteristics or features.\u201d<\/p>\n

John loves the variety of people he meets in the role, from the hospital\u2019s Executive Director to food services staff, patient support officers and the Charlie\u2019s Angel volunteers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI treat everyone who walks in equally and with respect \u2013 the same rules apply to everyone,\u201d says John.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I walk out the door at the end of the day, I like to know I\u2019ve given my best to the role.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fit Testing only takes around 20-30 minutes, and John likes to make the process as easy as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people come in for their Fit Test I try and make them feel as comfortable as possible. I explain the process and keep it light-hearted so there\u2019s no pressure or anxiety. We\u2019re here to get the job done quickly and easily,\u201d says John.<\/p>\n

For some staff the configuration of their facial hair means their mask won\u2019t seal properly. John has a solution for this too.<\/p>\n

\u201cStaff often wonder whether they can keep their facial hair. Whilst most beard types are out as the facial hair prevents an effective seal, there are still a lot of moustache styles that are acceptable,\u201d says John.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can choose from the walrus, zappa, zorro, lampshade or the favourite handlebar \u2013 all of these moustache styles, combined with clean shaven skin will still achieve an adequate seal.\u201d<\/p>\n

When John is not performing Fit Tests at TPCH he enjoys watching sport such as the NRL and spending time with his family, including his three grandkids.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
