Power to our hospital superheroes! Staff from The Prince Charles Hospital\u2019s Children\u2019s Emergency Department celebrate TPCH Week<\/p><\/div>\n

Staff at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) recently replaced their scrubs with superhero outfits to celebrate the hospital\u2019s upcoming birthday.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The iconic Chermside hospital, which originally opened as a three-ward Tuberculosis Sanatorium in November 1954, is celebrating 69 years of providing leading care to the community. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To commemorate the occasion, TPCH held its annual Charlies Week, a week-long celebration of recognition, educational and fun events for staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Director Tami Photinos said that Charlies Week was an opportunity for the hospital to recognise the achievements of staff and thank them for their commitment to caring for the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in healthcare can be challenging, and our staff work hard to ensure our patients receive the best possible care,\u201d Tami said.<\/span><\/p>\n

From its early days as a specialist heart and lung hospital, TPCH has grown to become a 630-bed facility that now serves the broader healthcare needs of the community including adults and children.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The hospital provides services in cardiology and thoracic medicine, emergency medicine, general medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitative medicine, paediatrics, palliative care and mental health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TPCH has been responsible for numerous medical firsts including Queensland\u2019s first trans-aortic valve implantation program, Australia\u2019s first triple organ (heart-lung-liver) transplant, and the world-first ICU of the Future.<\/span><\/p>\n
