How can I reduce my risk of getting Monkeypox if I am in the same household as someone with Monkeypox?

If caring for someone with Monkeypox wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves and a surgical mask.

Practise good hand hygiene after contact with an infected person. Wash hands for 20 seconds with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser after you remove gloves.

See comments re bathroom cleaning, towel washing, and separation in the “how do I isolate” section above. Preferable utensils/plates etc should be washed in a dishwasher due to the temperature of the water achieved for washing.

    Management of contacts

For contacts of probable or confirmed Monkeypox cases, you will be monitored for Monkeypox symptoms for 21 days after the date of last exposure. If you develop symptoms, you must immediately isolate and seek medical review. If you leave the home, you are advised to wear a mask and cover all lesions.
