Challenges and Opportunities in Trauma Care
The Jamieson Trauma Institute celebrated its 5th birthday and a new contract for the next 5 years with a stunning annual event. A fantastic audience – in person and virtual – saw the welcome addresses by A/Prof Catherine McDougall, Chief Medical Officer QLD Health and Dr Rob Franz, Board Member Metro North Health – followed by the firsthand personal experience as multi-trauma patients by Mr Darryl O’Callaghan and Dr Dinesh Palipana, OAM, both JTI team members. Patient perspectives are so important to address the real needs and forming the why of our projects. Brilliant, sharp presentations by the JTI team demonstrated how JTI will bring the Vision for Trauma Care in 2032 to reality. What a journey and energy from the whole Team!!!!
A highlight of the evening was the generous donation by the Trauma Link Group founded in 1988. On behalf of the founding members A/Prof Cliff Pollard presented a cheque of $35,000 to JTI to support new educational projects for rural and remote Queensland.
Prof Gerry Fitzgerald announced this year’s winner of the Cliff Pollard Award – Mr Danilo Carluccio for their work in the Implementation of hybrid analogue-digital prosthetic workflow.
With the Song “Celebration” the audience went on to an engaging and enjoyable networking session, that included testing of new virtual surgical training tools provided by Swiss partners and the newest robotic rehabilitation technologies.
Many thanks to each and every one, who came to this year’s event and showed their strong ongoing support for JTI. Most of all, our sincere thanks to our funding partners – Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC), Metro North Health, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and its Foundation – for their strong ongoing commitment, allowing us to improve the pathway and recovery for trauma patients across QLD according to value-based care.
