Newsletter – July 2025

15 July 2025|

From media to new initiatives, the past weeks have been packed with energy and innovation at JTI. New collaborations are taking shape, like our work with the Townsville University Hospital Trauma Service, funded by their SERTA program, aimed at investigating the cost of complex trauma care in North Queensland.

The SafeAge Project

11 July 2025|

The growing incidence of product-related injuries among older Australians highlights the need for targeted injury prevention. Age-related factors and modifiable contributors, including product design and home environments, play a key role—yet the lack of robust surveillance data limits informed policy and intervention.

Queensland Trauma Education

10 July 2025|

It has been another busy period for Queensland Trauma Education, an initiative of the Clinical Skills Development Service (CSDS) in partnership with the Queensland Trauma Clinical Network and JTI. Since January the team has run three courses at CSDS and six on-the-road programs to Stanthorpe, Moranbah, Thursday Island, Kingaroy, Longreach and Emerald. To date, an additional 28 sites across Queensland have submitted an EOI to participate in the program.

Study Update: Use of advanced magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose brachial plexus injuries and inform surgical intervention

5 December 2024|

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is currently used to help diagnose brachial plexus injuries, but traditional imaging protocols do not deliver the depth of information required by clinicians due to the complex ramified structure and the location of the brachial plexus. The Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF) secured a loan from Siemens Healthcare for an advanced MRI protocol, ‘SMS-RESOLVE diffusion imaging sequence’. The study’s hypothesis is that the information provided by the new protocol will significantly aid with clinical decision-making.
