Injury Prevention Workshop a success

Stakeholders from across government, academia and community came together in November for the Jamieson Trauma Institute’s workshop on injury prevention.

The Injury Prevention in Queensland: Creating a Roadmap workshop brought together a range of people to improve the collaboration and coordination of injury prevention activities across Queensland.

The workshop started with an overview of the Queensland history and context from Professor Vivienne Tippett. It was followed by a presentation by Professor Ian Pike Director of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit on the Canadian injury prevention alliance which included excellent advice on strategy implementation.

Dr Ben Beck presented a summary of the national injury prevention strategy development, followed by some fabulous examples of collaborations from local groups including the Consumer Product Injury group (presented by Susan Teerds) and the Road Safety Data Bureau (presented by Peter Kolesnik).

Workshop attendees participated in a roundtable discussion to brainstorm the priorities and approaches moving forward before the group came back together for a facilitated discussion led by Professor Barry Watson, recently retired from Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety Queensland at QUT.

Follow up meetings will be held in early 2020 to work through the action list from the workshop. For further information or to register your interest in being involved please email JTI on jamieson_trauma_institute@health.qld.gov.au.
