Andy Foster was awarded the Best Paper Award at the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Annual Scientific Meeting in Christchurch last week.

The award was presented by Chris Morrey for the project developing an antibiotic-loaded hydrogel for local use in surgery. This was a project completed at the AO Research Institute, Davos, through a medical research fellowship while completing a PhD with the Queensland University of Technology and the Jamieson Trauma Institute.

This is one of multiple preclinical projects describing the use of this emerging technology to treat surgical infections, and in this paper demonstrates the utility in single stage revision surgery of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection.

This work has been published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research and is available at https://doi.org/10.1002/jor.24949.
