Panos trained as a physiotherapist in both Athens and Northern Ireland, where he completed his DPhil at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown.

Before moving to Brisbane in February 2021, Panos had an academic career as a lecturer and Senior Research Lecturer in Coventry University and Keele University. Here he led postgraduate modules on pain physiology and management and was involved in a number of research projects on the management of musculoskeletal pain.

He is currently a Principal Research Fellow at the Jamieson Trauma Institute, leading the SMART ankle project on the use of technology in the rehabilitation of ankle fractures. He is also the Project Manager for the HCF funded RIME (Reducing Inappropriate Medications for low back pain in the Emergency department: a controlled interrupted time-series implementation) study.

He has extensive experience in experimental and clinical research as well as supervision of research (Masters and PhD) experience and a keen interest in long term rehabilitation outcomes of patients with musculoskeletal and traumatic conditions. He is also an expert on sensory stimulation induced analgesia, a subject which he has taught for 25 years all around the world.
