Dr Ruth Barker is an emergency paediatrician with over 30 years clinical experience.

Dr Barker has been working in injury prevention for the last 20 years and has been the Director of the Queensland Injury Surveillance Unit since 2009. She is the JTI Injury Prevention lead and current President of Kidsafe Qld.

Dr Barker has expertise in understanding and interpreting the complex relationship between developmental, biomechanical, psychological, social and environmental factors that predict paediatric injury. This expertise was largely developed through correlation of patient/ family narrative with injury findings in the emergency department.

Dr Barker also has expertise in injury data analysis, interpretation and development and implementation of injury prevention strategy through advocacy, policy, standards and regulatory change. Dr Barker participates on a broad range of Australian Standards committees contributing clinical injury insights to improve product safety.
