Thesis title: Predicting and improving longer term outcomes of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome
Thesis Summary: Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) as a set of new and worsening functional, mental and cognitive impairments following ICU discharge. Despite growing evidence after the millennium, there is a gap on the long-term outcomes after discharge. Routine challenges that survivors were dealing with included being unable to perform daily tasks, an imbalance between the care that was provided and the care that was required, and complications related to polypharmacy. The primary goals of this research project are to identify predictors of long-term PICS outcomes among ICU survivors and improvement of long-term outcomes of PICS. The improvement program will incorporate the development of evidence-based recommendations based on modifiable risk factors and the introduction of new treatment strategies based on evidence.
