Student opportunities
Are you passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of those impacted by trauma? Have you considered undertaking postgraduate research training (PhD, MPhil) in this area? Would you be interested in working with one of Queensland’s most reputable research institutes? Jamieson Trauma Institute (JTI) is embedded in Queensland Health, with researchers, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists, and engineers working in the clinical context alongside clinicians and consumers. Our researchers have expertise and skills spanning the patient journey, from pre-clinical to rehabilitation research. Collaborating with JTI’s leading clinicians and research staff, students are provided with opportunities to learn about current clinical problems, as well as receive support and guidance, giving HDR students the best opportunity to obtain an optimum outcome with their study and project research, contributing to determining unique solutions to unique challenges in trauma care for Queensland and beyond. For more information about our researchers, past and present HDR students and their research please visit our website. Title:
The economics of transport and work-related injuries in Australia: a population-based cohort study
Overview of the project:
Injury is a major contributor to mortality, morbidity, and permanent disability, and imposes a significant burden on the Australian health system. A better understanding of the burden, models of care, and economic drivers of injury will help design cost-effective injury prevention and treatment strategies to minimize the incidence and burden of the disease while improving injury outcomes. This project will investigate the burden (both direct and indirect cost) of transport and work-related injuries in the Australian population using linked retrospective population-based cohort data.
Skills and experience required:
- A master degree (or equivalent) in a health discipline, economics or a related discipline.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Demonstrated experience in handling large datasets in R, Stata or similar software for data cleaning and analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for presenting research findings and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated publication record (or potential) in peer-reviewed journals.
