Caboolture Hospital Short Stay Unit

The Caboolture Hospital Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU) is an eight bed facility that has been designed to deliver brief interventions for people presenting with acute mental health concerns 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  It provides a safe environment for observation and treatment of people over 16 years of age and focusses on delivering short-term inpatient care.

Our services

The MHSSU supports persons who require specialist mental health care who would benefit from a short inpatient admission to facilitate further assessment and diagnosis.

The MHSSU provides opportunity for people to access a supported clinical environment in which they can be assisted to address immediate clinical issues without requiring an acute inpatient admission. Patients in the MHSSU may require input from other specialist services, including but not limited to, Alcohol and Drug Service Consultation Liaison, Emergency Department medical staff and other medical specialties.

How to access this service

Admission to the MHSSU occurs following assessment by a mental health team in the community or via presentation to either the Caboolture Hospital or Redcliffe Hospital.
