Going home after birth
Discharge
You may ask to be discharged from hospital between 6-48 hours after birth, if you have a have a normal, uncomplicated vaginal birth. Midwives will give you discharge education including parent crafting and infant feeding support before discharge at 10.00am. Expected discharge after an uncomplicated caesarean is 72 hours.
Safe baby travel
Make sure to organise a baby capsule or car seat for a safe journey home. Find out more about child car seating and restraints.
GP visits
You are encouraged to take your baby to the GP for a check-up at 5 – 7 days after birth and again 6 – 8 weeks after birth for the baby/s immunisations.
Further education and support
All babies born at Caboolture Hospital are referred to Community Child Health for ongoing health education and support. Clinics are run solely by Child Health Nurses with no appointment needed. Call (07) 5433 8001 for further information.
Concerns
If you have concerns and would like to speak someone:
- the midwifery postnatal contact coordinator is available by phone on (07) 5433 8923 from Monday-Friday, 8.00am to 3.30pm
- contact your GP for an appointment
- 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) and ask to speak to a child health nurse.
