Bone, Joint and Spine Infection Symposium

The Bone, Joint and Spine Infection Symposium was held on 26–27 February 2026, hosted collaboratively by QUT, the Jamieson Trauma Institute, and the Pro-Implant Foundation. The event was an overwhelming success, bringing together leading international and national experts in musculoskeletal infection.

This year’s distinguished program featured global authorities including Prof Werner Zimmerli (Switzerland), A/Professor Martina Maritati (Italy), and Prof Chris Arts (Netherlands), alongside respected Australian specialists such as Prof Peter Choong (Melbourne), A/Prof Nora Renz (Brisbane), A/Prof Chris Morrey (Cairns), Prof Ross Crawford (Brisbane), and Dr Kevin Tetsworth (Brisbane).

The program was expertly moderated by Prof Andrej Trampuz and Prof Michael Schuetz, whose enthusiasm and deep expertise guided discussions throughout the two days. The agenda covered a broad range of contemporary and clinically relevant topics, including standardised approaches to prosthetic joint infections, infections following trauma, and spine, soft tissue, and complex special infections. Sessions sparked lively debate, insightful discussion, and valuable knowledge exchange.

The symposium attracted a wide audience of healthcare professionals from orthopaedics, nursing, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, academia, and pharmacy—demonstrating the growing multidisciplinary interest in improving outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal infections.

Industry partners and sponsors contributed through an engaging trade display, offering opportunities for networking, collaboration, and hands-on product demonstrations that added practical value to the educational program.

We are pleased to announce that next year’s event will be held on 25–26 February 2027. Planning is already underway, and we look forward to another informative and inspiring symposium.
