Dr Andrew Foster awarded the Damian McMahon prize

Dr Andrew Foster was awarded the Damian McMahon prize for best trauma paper at the 2022 Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS) Annual Scientific Congress (ASC).

The project is evaluating an antibiotic hydrogel for local delivery into the surgical site to prevent post-operative infection. Andy is a former Jamieson Trauma Institute clinical research fellow, and this project completed at the AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland, forms a part of his PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. This paper has been published in the special issue on Orthopedic Device-Related Infection (ODRI) in the Frontiers of Cellular and Infection Microbiology

The Damian McMahon Trauma Research Travel Grant is awarded to the best oral trauma paper presented by an eligible Trainee at the RACS ASC. Dr Damian McMahon FRACS was an integral and influential member of the RACS Trauma Committee, Chair of the Trauma Verification Sub-Committee and a passionate educator of Trainees. The prize includes a travel grant allowing the winning trainee will present their paper at the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Asia Pacific (Region XVI) meeting.
