STOP THE BLEED® is a program to teach non-medical people how to stop life-threatening bleeding, including how to apply pressure, pack a wound, and apply a tourniquet. We want this training to be as accessible as possible so that every Queenslander has the knowledge, skills and confidence to be an immediate responder to injury and save lives.
To achieve this goal, clinicians and researchers at the Jamieson Trauma Institute and the RBWH Trauma Service are:
- Adapting training materials originally developed by the American College of Surgeons to Australian contexts.
- Developing a ‘hub-and-spoke’ ‘train the trainer’ model to increase the number of in-person training sessions available in Queensland.
- Creating an interactive e-learning package in collaboration with MotionCurve Australia to increase engagement and accessibility.
- Evaluating new training materials with non-medical participants using rigorous simulation testing methods and using insights gathered from this to improve training materials.
