Preparing for your tests
If you have any NEW (within 1-2 weeks) respiratory symptoms such as a cold/flu, a new cough or runny nose or have had any surgery or major procedures within the last month, please contact the department to reschedule your appointment on (07) 5433 8474.
Patient Preparation
- Please continue to take any regular medications as prescribed by your doctor.
- It is important to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing for this test.
- You can eat and drink as normal.
- Patients under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult/guardian.
- Please avoid wearing perfume/cologne as some of our patients’ symptoms are triggered by strong smells.
Patients are asked to refrain from the following before the test:

Withholding Inhalers
First time patients to the department:
- If you are currently on inhaler medication, please restrain from taking these before your appointment according to the timeframes below. If you are unable to do this due to severe breathlessness, take your inhalers as normal however let the scientist know so they can document this on your test. All other medications can be taken as normal.
Returning patients:
- Inhalers can be taken as per your normal routine, unless advised otherwise by the physician requesting the test.
