Patient Information
What to bring
- Your Medicare card
- Private Health Insurance card (if you have one)
- Health Care card and/or Concession card (if you have one)
- Current medications (prescription, over the counter and herbal medicine)
- Relevant x-rays, scans or any other test results or reports
- Glasses, hearing and mobility aids
What to Expect
Your doctor has asked that you have an Exercise Stress Test. Please allow up to 60 minutes.
An Exercise Stress Test involves walking on a treadmill which will increase in speed and incline at regular intervals until you get to your maximum effort. Disposable monitoring electrodes will be placed on your chest. Your ECG and blood pressure will be monitored regularly. If required there are showers you can use after the test if you wish.
If your symptoms or condition get worse, see your GP or go to your local emergency department.
If requested by your doctor, an outpatient appointment will be made and you will receive an SMS or letter with your appointment date and time.
How to prepare
Please wear appropriate clothing for exercise, comfortable shorts or skirt (not jeans or a dress). Ensure that you wear comfortable non-slip shoes, that you would wear for a quick walk (no thongs, loose fitting sandals or high heels), otherwise you may be asked to walk barefoot.
It is suggested that you eat a light meal 2 hours prior to your test and then do not eat after this time. Continue to drink water as needed. Take your medications as normal unless your Doctor specifically states otherwise.
A Queensland Health consent form is included, please read this before you arrive. Write any questions you may have and they will be answered on the day.
