What to Expect
Your doctor has asked that you have a Holter Monitor. This will take about 30 minutes.
The Holter Monitor will record your heart activity for around 24 hours whilst you go about your normal daily activities.
It is important that the device does not get wet so you will not be able to bath or shower when you are wearing the device. If required, there are showers available for you to use at our clinic before the monitor is applied.
Disposable electrodes will be applied to your chest, which are connected to the monitor. The device fits into a pouch with a strap that can be worn over your shoulder or neck.
The device must be returned in-person to the Cardiac Sciences Unit by 8am the next business day (unless otherwise advised), so the next patient can use the Holter Monitor. In special circumstances other arrangements may be possible however this must be planned prior to your Holter appointment.
If your symptoms or condition get worse, see your GP, or go to your local emergency department.
If requested by your doctor, an outpatient appointment will be made and you will receive an SMS or letter with your appointment date and time.
How to prepare
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to wear pants or a skirt.
