World-first clinical trial uses 3D-printed breast scaffolds for reconstruction after cancer surgery
Prof Owen Ung talks to ABC Radio Brisbane’s Kat Feeney – Monday 27 October 2025.
Everyday, 58 people in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
That equates to over 21,000 people being diagnosed each year.
But now, part of the recovery process could come down to using 3D printing for breast reconstruction, with leading work coming out of Queensland.
Kat Feeney spoke with Professor Owen Ung, Director of the Metro North Comprehensive Breast Cancer Institute and program lead for Breast Reconstruction at Herston Biofabrication Institute to learn about this world-first treatment.
