HBI welcomed Years 10 to 12 female students from across Queensland

The Herston Biofabrication Institute (HBI) was proud to welcome students participating in the Women in Manufacturing Brisbane Delegation 2026, an initiative supported by the Queensland Manufacturing Hubs that aims to inspire the next generation of female leaders in manufacturing, engineering, science, and innovation.

The delegation brought together female students from Years 10 to 12 across regional Queensland for an immersive experience designed to showcase the exciting opportunities available within the manufacturing sector. As part of their Brisbane program, students visited leading organisations and industry facilities to gain firsthand insight into advanced technologies, innovation, and career pathways.

During their visit to HBI, students were introduced to the diverse and multidisciplinary work undertaken across the institute. They learned how researchers, engineers, scientists, clinicians, project professionals, and support staff collaborate to develop innovative healthcare solutions that have a direct impact on patients and communities.

Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to tour the facility, observe cutting-edge technologies, and engage with HBI team members. Interactive discussions allowed them to ask questions about career journeys, educational pathways, and the skills required to succeed in fields such as biofabrication, biomedical engineering, medical research, and advanced manufacturing.

A key focus of the program was highlighting the important contribution that women make across manufacturing, research, and healthcare innovation. Students were able to meet female professionals working in a variety of roles and hear firsthand about their experiences, achievements, and advice for pursuing careers in STEM-related industries.

The visit also demonstrated how innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving drive progress within advanced manufacturing environments. Through real-world examples, students gained a deeper understanding of how science, engineering, and medicine can be combined to develop technologies that improve patient outcomes and address healthcare challenges.

HBI was delighted to participate in this inspiring initiative and to contribute to the development of future talent within Queensland’s manufacturing and innovation sectors. We hope the experience encouraged students to explore the many exciting opportunities available in STEM and advanced manufacturing and to see themselves as future leaders in these industries.
