PhD, MSc, BSc

Nicolas is a Senior Research Officer in the Vascular Biofabrication Program at the Herston Biofabrication Institute, where he leads engineering development for patient-specific vascular simulation and next-generation implant technologies. He works closely with vascular surgeons, designers, and imaging specialists to translate complex clinical needs into practical engineering solutions.

Nicolas’ expertise spans mechanical and materials engineering, advanced manufacturing, CAD and mechanical design, additive manufacturing, biomedical product development, design controls, prototyping, and verification and validation through mechanical and materials testing. Prior to joining HBI, he worked in R&D at Cook Medical, contributing to the development of two Class-III vascular implants that have progressed to first-in-patient use, giving him direct experience in regulated medical device development.

He holds a PhD in advanced manufacturing and a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mechanical and materials engineering. Outside of his core research activities, Nico is deeply passionate about 3D printing, emerging technologies, and entrepreneurship, interests that continue to shape his approach to innovation and practical problem-solving. At HBI, he is focused on expanding vascular engineering capability by integrating advanced manufacturing with clinical insight to drive the development of new simulation platforms and future vascular graft technologies.
