Associate Professor Joy Wolfram leads a research program dedicated to advancing cell and cell-derived therapeutics towards clinical translation. Before joining The University of Queensland, she spent more than a decade in hospital-based research institutes, including leading a research group at Mayo Clinic—ranked the world’s best hospital by Newsweek—where she also served as Associate Director of the PhD Program in Regenerative Sciences.

A/Prof Wolfram has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 53; >22,000 citations, Google Scholar) in leading journals such as Nature Reviews Materials (IF 86.2) and Nature Nanotechnology (IF 38.1). She has delivered over 100 keynote and invited presentations, and her research has been featured in 65 international media outlets (Altmetric), including those with a readership of more than 350 million, such as China Daily. She also contributes to the boards and scientific advisory panels of several companies with a cumulative customer base of more than 20 million.

As a named investigator, A/Prof Wolfram has secured $270 million in research funding. Her laboratory includes clinician-scientists, and she holds an affiliate appointment at Houston Methodist Hospital, ranked among the top 20 hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. She has organised national health consumer workshops and published frameworks to guide consumer–researcher partnerships. As a TED Speaker, she is committed to communicating science clearly and making biomedical innovation accessible to global audiences.
