    PEP VS. PREP

PEP stands for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is a month-long course of drugs to help prevent HIV infection that is taken after a possible exposure to HIV.

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is a drug taken daily over a sustained period before a potential exposure, to help prevent HIV infection before exposure.

    PEP

If you have been exposed to HIV in the past 72 hours, you may be eligible for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

PEP is a 4-week course of a daily tablet that can be taken after possible exposure to HIV. PEP can be access from any Public Emergency Department or Sexual Health Clinic.

    PrEP

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or PrEP is a daily tablet that can be taken by a HIV negative person to prevent HIV. PrEP is a great option for anyone who is at high risk of acquiring HIV as it is very effective at preventing HIV. PrEP does not prevent against other STIs or pregnancy.

PrEP can be access through our service, online and with any General Practitioner (GP). It is recommended that long term PrEP be sourced through a GP.
