Dr Bianca Pang.

Valentine’s Day a special occasion for Caboolture Hospital medical intern Dr Bianca Pang.

Dr Pang is following in the footsteps of her mentor and now fiancé, Dr Kai Bin Law, who played an instrumental role in her journey into medicine.

Dr Law was part of the junior doctor intake at Caboolture Hospital in 2024. He continues to work at Caboolture Hospital in anaesthetics and is interested in a career in radiology.

After saying yes to a romantic proposal, Dr Pang describes Dr Law as her ‘mentor for the rest of her life.’

The pair – originally from Singapore – embarked on a life-changing journey nearly a decade ago when Dr Pang moved to Sydney to pursue her dream of studying medicine at the University of New South Wales. She is one of 20 interns who will start their medical career at Caboolture Hospital this year.

Medical interns spend 12 months gaining valuable hands-on experience, rotating through key areas of the hospital including general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency, surgery and paediatrics.

Before pursuing medicine, Dr Pang had a diverse background, having worked as a beauty therapist and studied nutrition.

She is currently working in general surgery and adjusting to the busy hospital environment.

“I love how busy it is — it keeps me on my toes and makes everything feel exciting,” Dr Pang said.

“The staff – especially the medical education and medical workforce team – have been incredibly welcoming, which has made the transition much smoother.”

Her passion for women’s health has her eyeing a future in obstetrics and gynaecology (OBGYN).

“I’m excited to see what happens during my rotation, but I’m definitely drawn to OBGYN.”

Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, their bond has only strengthened over time.

The happy couple are now working on plans for a wedding later this year.
