While she acknowledges that decision making in a time of crisis is a hard thing to do, she says forward-planning can make all the difference.

"We want to look after you in a way that is meaningful, based on your values and needs, if the time comes that you cannot speak for yourself," Desre says.

"I've had so many people tell me that they feel better after the conversation, grateful that their wishes are known."

Trade manager of Carpentry Neil likens the work of the trades, engineers and maintenance crews in his team as the backbone of hospital operations.

"A hospital isn't just doctors and nurses, there will always be a need for infrastructure and skilled labour," shares Neil.

"Their expertise ensures that every clinical team can focus on what matters most — patient care.”

Baby Finley's start to life may have been rocky, but his move closer to home was made easier thanks to Caboolture Hospital and the new neonatal unit.

In line with World Prematurity Day yesterday, we are pleased to report that baby Finley is doing well after being born at just 29 weeks, and went home recently!

Finley spent more than nine weeks at RBWH, where he received CPAP and oxygen support. He was then transferred to Caboolture Hospital's rooming-in rooms recently, where he continued to develop and grow. 🐣

“My car was broken, so I was getting public transport between Caboolture and Brisbane every day,” Finley's Mum Clare said.

“Finley’s Dad was struggling to see him due to work commitments, but when he came here, he could see him a lot more.

“The nurses are amazing and right there when we need them, and to now have support so close to home means everything.” 🩷 ... See MoreSee Less
