Metro North Health Surgeons perform world-first breast implant surgery at RBWH using 3D printed scaffold

Metro North Health surgeons, Professor Owen Ung and Dr Michael Wagels, recently carried out a world-first trial of new technology at RBWH replacing a woman’s silicone breast implants with 3D printed bioresorbable scaffolds that use the body’s natural regenerative capabilities.

Professor Owen Ung is the Principal Investigator for the clinical trial, and Director of Metro North Health’s Comprehensive Breast Cancer Institute (CBCI).

Dr Michael Wagels is the Sub-Investigator for the clinical trial, and Clinical Director of Metro North Health’s Herston Biofabrication Institute (HBI).
