Following four years as Chair of Redcliffe Hospital’s clinical council, Dr Alan Yan takes the lead for Metro North.

Dr Alan Yan is the new Chair of Metro North’s Clinical Council

Dr Alan Yan is a familiar face at Redcliffe Hospital. He’s been a valuable part of the hospital community since 2014 and currently holds the critical role of Director of Emergency.

He’s also the new face of Metro North Health’s Clinical Council.

As the first point of contact with many patients, Alan recognises the importance of emergency medicine in the overall success of the hospital.

“We regularly treat patients at the worst moments in their lives,” he said.

“It’s important we have the systems, processes and workforce in place to provide quality care to the community.”

“Emergency medicine is an ever-evolving area, and we work to keep up to date with best practice.”

In addition to his role in emergency, Alan has been Chair of the Redcliffe Hospital Clinical Council for four years before being appointed the Chair of Metro North’s Clinical Council.

“Essentially, the Clinical Council is a voice for all staff,” Alan said.

“We meet regularly with hospital and Metro North executives and board members to discuss matters relating to workforce, culture, training and more.”

Alan recognises the importance of staff having a say in what happens at the hospital.

“Frontline staff know better than anyone what’s working well in caring for patients and areas where there are challenges,” he said.

“The clinical council seeks input from staff and presents it to senior leaders to consider as part of planning, delivering and improving hospital services.”

During his time as a member of the Clinical Council, Alan has seen the scope increase.

“Originally a voice for medical staff, the group has expanded over the years to represent all staff at Redcliffe Hospital,” he added.

“Regardless of role, everyone plays an important part in our hospital community, and deserve to have their say.

“I’m honoured to have been asked to take up the role of Chair in the Metro North Clinical Council – I’m looking forward to continuing to work with council members to make Metro North an even better place for our staff.”

Away from work, Alan has a young family with primary school age children. He’s also a keen runner and has worked to grow the annual Redcliffe Hospital fun run, in which he won the inaugural event.
