The Virtual Emergency Care Service (VECS) is a free, statewide Queensland Health service connecting adults and children with experienced emergency nurses and doctors by video or phone from your home.

VECS provides care for illnesses or injuries that are serious but not life-threatening. You will speak directly with a clinician who will listen, assess your symptoms, and guide the next steps in your care.

Health professionals

Healthcare professionals can engage VECS through established referral and clinician-to-clinician pathways to support timely specialist emergency input.

DO NOT use the Virtual Emergency Care Service for the following medical problems:

  • Chest pain
  • Breathing problems or turning blue
  • Comatose or unconscious
  • Sudden inability to move or speak, or sudden facial drooping
  • The effects of a severe accident
