    Metro North Health is the largest of 16 Hospital and Health Services (HHS) that provide public health services in Queensland.

    Metro North Health has two tertiary hospitals, providing care not only within the Metro North catchment but rural and remotely, across the State and inter-state.

    Who we are

    Metro North Health works in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, staff and stakeholders to improve health outcomes and experiences through culturally safe, responsive and equitable healthcare.

    Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health teams provide leadership, advice and support across Metro North Health, helping to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, priorities and voices are embedded in the planning, design and delivery of healthcare services.

    Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services are available across all Metro North Health facilities, providing cultural support and care to patients, families and communities. Services and roles include, but not limited to:

    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Services
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers
    • Specialised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers in Emergency Department, Mental Health and Maternity Services
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Officers
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurse Navigators (Identified)

    This work helps strengthen connections between healthcare services and community, ensuring care is respectful, culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
