Clinical and Research Dietitian, Data Manager

Dr Angela Byrnes is an early career researcher and dietitian at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She completed her PhD (conferred in February 2019) within the Centre for Dietetics Research at the University of Queensland and contributes to single and multisite research projects within the Nutrition and Dietetics Department and Internal Medicine Research Unit. Angela’s research areas include health services research, implementation science and research translation, and care of the older patient. Her PhD research was a mixed-methods knowledge translation study aiming to improve perioperative nutrition care of older general surgical patients at RBWH.

I have contributed to multiple projects across a variety of clinical areas in both inpatient and outpatient settings including general surgery, maternity, healthy lifestyle, care of the older patient, delirium prevention, advanced cancer, micronutrient monitoring, pressure injury and, most recently, applying experience-based co-design methods to improve patient bedside environments. I also have experience with undertaking and providing support for a range of research methods, including implementation studies, action research, qualitative research (e.g. interviews, ethnographic methods) and observational studies (e.g. questionnaire based, chart review).
