Presentation Description
This video provides an overview of the specialist services we offer at the RBWH for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology patients.
Within Cancer care, all AYA patient cases are presented at medical MDTs as well as psychosocial MDTs to ensure that young people and their families are well supported whilst in the care of our service. All AYA patients are provided care by our Cancer Care Services AYA Care Coordinator and are also seen by our specialist AYA social worker and AYA psychologist.
The RBWH AYA MDT includes specialist Haematologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Nurses, Care Coordinators, Radiation Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists and Welfare Officers and can also include Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists.
The RBWH AYA MDT is supported by the Queensland Youth Cancer Service (QYCS) who oversee the care of AYA Oncology patients across the state. Young people within our service also have the opportunity to access the Sony YouCan Centre, a purpose built centre at the RBWH for AYA patients and their families to retreat to during their hospital stay.
