How to Refer

Who is eligible?

Referrals of patients

  • with refractory epilepsy (i.e. with continuing seizures despite compliance with antiseizure medications)
  • who require further diagnostic workup to clarify the epilepsy syndrome or diagnosis

Are accepted from GPs in Metro North Health catchment, and from specialists anywhere in Queensland.

Transition clinic is limited to those patients previously cared for by the Queensland Children Hospital Neurology Department. For other patients transitioning to adult services, a specialist referral is required.

Other clinics are generally restricted to Metro North Health catchment, but patients from other areas can be seen on a case by case basis.

If your patient does not meet the referral criteria, but you feel they may benefit from being seen by one of the RBWH Comprehensive Epilepsy Program outpatient clinics, please send your referral to:

Prof. David Reutens
RBWH Comprehensive Epilepsy Unit
Herston Rd Herston
Brisbane 4029

If you wish to discuss the matter, please contact the Epilepsy Fellow through RBWH switch, who will contact the appropriate consultant.
