Dr Elango Pillai
Staff Specialist, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Cancer Care Services, RBWH
Dr Pillai is a Haematologist with clinical interests in the management of acute and chronic leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma and autologous/allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Dr Pillai graduated from Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1997 and pursued general medicine training at the National University Hospital in Singapore. He migrated to Australia in 2003 where he completed dual fellowships in Laboratory and Clinical Haematology at The Canberra hospital. Subsequent to that he attended training in bone marrow transplantation at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he took up an appointment as a staff specialist in the Department of Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation in 2010. He is also a visiting haematologist at the Prince Charles hospital and provides haematology outreach service at North Lakes Health Precinct.
Dr Pillai has an ongoing keen interest in clinical research and is a co-investigator in a number of areas of leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. He has publications in the areas of acute leukaemia, and allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
In addition, Dr Pillai is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and continues to be involved in teaching medical student and physician training. Dr Pillai is a member in American Society of Haematology and European Society of Haematology.
