Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre

Overview

Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre aims to support excellence in nursing and midwifery care at RBWH through conducting clinically driven, high quality, funded research.  Our focus is to work with nurse clinicians in the generation and utilisation of evidence to inform policy and practice for efficient, effective and patient-centred care.

Research

Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre is responsible for conducting high quality clinical research in collaboration with registered nurses, midwives and nursing management at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Research support is provided through:

  • Evidence-Based Practice program which mentors nursing staff through the process of using and evidence-based framework to answer clinical nursing questions
  • Mentoring program which offers one-to-one research support for nurses and midwives who are keen to undertake a research study or a practice improvement project. Support is provided for the full spectrum of research activities from refining a research idea into a researchable question to publishing a journal.

The main areas of research within this service line are related to:

  • Pressure Injury Prevention
  • Skin integrity in the critically ill patient
  • Vascular Access Devices and Intravenous therapy
  • Implementation Science
  • Perioperative Care
  • Surgery.

The Centre is always open to initiating new and exciting projects throughout the RBWH and has participated and run several large SEED/LINK and NHMRC grants.
