Caboolture Hospital registered midwife Hayley Flatley has given a whole new meaning to bringing your personal life to work, after the recent birth of her baby boy Kit at the hospital in mid-April.

Hayley has been part of the tight-knit Caboolture Hospital team since 2022 and when she found out she was pregnant with her baby, she immediately knew she wanted to give birth at the hospital.

“I wouldn’t want to have my baby anywhere else. It’s a special place to work and everyone looks out for each other. I felt so comfortable it was almost like having a home birth,” Hayley said.

“People would often ask me if I thought it would be strange having my colleagues see me giving birth, but I felt so safe and cared for it mitigated any potential embarrassment.

“Being a patient and seeing things from the other side was strange, but it was also comforting to know how much impact midwives can have on patients, their families and their experience.”

Kit was born on 14 April 2025 weighing 4.3kgs, almost a year after Hayley’s father, Stuart, tragically passed away from brain cancer. Kit’s middle name, Stuey, was given in honour of Hayley’s father.

Hayley’s midwife Mykaela Hollindale who works as part of Caboolture Hospital’s Midwifery Group Practice, Damara, said she was honoured and excited that Hayley chose her to be her midwife.

“Hayley and I completed our studies around the same time, so we have known each other for many years,” she said.

“It was a phenomenal experience to care for my colleague and help deliver her baby boy.”
