Who are we?

The Brisbane Orthopaedic Research Group (BORG) at The Prince Charles Hospital, led by Dr Anthony Silva, is a dynamic clinical and research hub driving advancements in musculoskeletal care and orthopaedic innovation. Our team brings together consultant orthopaedic surgeons, orthopaedic trainees, clinicians, and researchers to integrate frontline clinical expertise with the latest evidence. Through impactful, collaborative, and translational research, we aim to enhance surgical outcomes, optimise patient recovery, and improve the overall delivery of orthopaedic care.

BORG Research Impact

Although BORG is relatively new, we have already built a strong foundation and are making a growing impact. Our team currently leads more than 20 active projects across a range of orthopaedic topics. Our members have contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications, helping to advance knowledge and improve patient care. Looking ahead, several Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students are preparing to join the group in 2027, further expanding our research capacity and expertise. We are also aiming to secure several competitive grants to support new projects, foster innovation, and strengthen our long‑term research impact.

For patients and consumers

BORG brings together surgeons, healthcare professionals, and researchers dedicated to improving patient care. Our work focuses on innovation and collaboration, particularly in orthopaedic robotics, to make surgery safer and recovery faster.

At The Prince Charles Hospital, the health needs of our patients guide our research. As a Metro North patient or healthcare consumer, you may be invited to take part in research or clinical trials. Learn more about participating in research through the Metro North website: for patients and consumers.
