Men’s Sheds

Men’s Sheds provide a welcoming environment for older men to connect with others through practical activities, shared interests and conversation.

Activities may include woodworking, small projects, sharing skills, having a meal together or simply enjoying time with others.

Women’s Sheds

Women’s Sheds provide opportunities for women to connect through creative activities, practical projects, learning and social time.

They are welcoming spaces where women can share skills, build friendships and support each other.

Country Women’s Association (CWA)

The CWA provides opportunities for women to meet others, participate in community activities and build friendships.

Many branches hold regular meetings, social activities and community events.

Comlink Australia – Social Support

Comlink Australia supports older people to stay connected, active and involved in their community.

Support may include:

  • social visits and companionship
  • assistance to attend outings or appointments
  • group activities and community events

Burnie Brae Community Centre

Burnie Brae is a welcoming community centre located in Chermside. You don’t have to live nearby to attend. Everyone is welcome if you’re able to travel there. There is a small membership fee to join.

It offers a range of activities and services all in one place, including:

  • gym designed for older adults, with physiotherapists available
  • community garden
  • café for socialising and relaxing
  • hall where a variety of activities, events, and group outings are held

Volunteer and give back

Volunteering can provide purpose, routine and opportunities to meet people with shared interests.
