Nurse-led clinic opens in Brisbane CBD ready for patient care
Nurses are leading the way at a new Brisbane City Nurse-led Walk-in Clinic (WiC) which opened to its first patients this week.
Nurse Chrisna Dwinger is just one of the nursing team set to provide non-urgent care for walk-in patients at the clinic, which may include anything from respiratory conditions to minor injuries.
“It’s about providing better healthcare for people who would not necessarily have access to this service,” she said.
“The clinic will allow nurses the opportunity to deliver an increased scope of practice to do more for our patients, in conjunction with GPs and other health professionals.
“I am looking forward to having the ability to help them make a change even if it is only for one patient.”
Before becoming a clinical nurse at WiC, Chrisna has had more than 25 years’ experience as a registered nurse across Melbourne, Christmas Island and Brisbane.
“It is good to see nurses leading the way, as we have the capacity to do so much more with the right scope of practice,” she said.
“Working with GPs as part of the healthcare provided to people in detention, as I did in the past, is very similar to the model of care that will be adopted as part of the new nurse-led clinic.”
The clinic, located at 316 Adelaide Street Brisbane CBD, is open from 8am – 10pm daily and can provide care for minor conditions such as conjunctivitis, common colds, and simple respiratory conditions, as well as cuts, abrasions, bruises and minor burns.
