The Metro North Board held its meeting at the heritage listed Edith Cavell building Herston and met staff from Metro North Office of Research and our strategic institutes – Heart and Lung Institute, Herston Biofabrication Institute, Herston Infectious Diseases Institute, Jamieson Trauma Institute, and Comprehensive Breast Cancer Institute on 24 March 2026.

A summary of the meeting is provided below.

• The Board acknowledged the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Jagera, Turrbul, Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples on whose lands Metro North Health delivers its services.
• The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Chief Executive and received a paper on Critical Care Services, which includes emergency medicine and intensive care services.
• The Board approved the revised Metro North Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which will be submitted to the Department of Premier and Cabinet for review as part of annual reporting and planning requirements for government agencies.
• The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on People and Culture, Financial and Operations performance including work on long-stay patients in acute wards and improving patient access when they arrive via ambulance to emergency departments.
• Other agenda items comprised: ieMR implementation readiness; Mental Health Services; and clinical governance of smaller speciality services at RBWH.
• Update from the Chair, Metro North Clinical Council on council priorities and topical issues.
• Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, as well as the board representative on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
• Reports were noted on the following topics: ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; Risk and Audit Committee Chair report; and Clinical Excellence Queensland Patient Safety and Quality Report.

The next board meeting will be held on 28 April 2026 at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).
