2026 Board meeting summaries

The Metro North Board held its meeting at the Herston Biofabrication Institute and met staff from the Institute, as well as Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital clinical leaders and Metro North Mental Health teams (HiTH,1 and PEC2 ).

  • The Board acknowledged the Jagera and Turrbul peoples the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Board met.
  • The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Chief Executive and provided feedback on the draft Annual Report 2025-26.
  • The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on people and culture, financial and operations performance.
  • The Executive Director, Medicine Clinical Stream presented the Stream annual report, highlighting increasing demand and complexity across medicine services, improvements in patient flow and access initiatives, and ongoing challenges relating to capacity, discharge delays, and system-wide pressures.
  • Other agenda items comprised:
    • The Prince Charles Hospital redevelopment – Hospital Rescue Plan
    • Update on progress of implementation of Metro North reviews recommendations
    • Procurement decisions regarding Mental Health Beds, clinical waste and radiology reporting.
  • Update from the Chair, Metro North Clinical Council on council priorities and topical issues.
  • Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, Risk and Audit Committee as well as the board representative on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation and The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
  • Reports were noted on the following topics: ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; and Metro North Olympics and Paralympics preparedness update.

The next board meeting will be held on 25 August 2026 at the Herston campus.

  • The Board acknowledged the Kabi Kabi people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Board met.

A summary of the meeting is provided below.

  • The Board acknowledged the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Board met, the Jinibara people. On behalf of the Board, the Board Chair acknowledged National Sorry Day (26 May) and the eve of National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June).
  • The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Chief Executive and approved the Chief Executive performance agreement and funding agreement amendment window with Queensland Health.
  • The Board approved the Child Safe Organisation Statement of Commitment and the annual refresh of the Strategic Plan 2024-2028 (2026 refresh).
  • The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on people and culture, financial and operations performance.
  • Other agenda items comprised:
    • the annual report was presented on Outpatients Strategies

  • The annual report was presented on the Surgery Clinical Stream, including a detailed analysis of elective surgery performance.

  • Approval of contracts for office supplies, radiology services and additional beds as well as approval of an easement to Department of Education at Caboolture Hospital.
  • Update from the Chair, Metro North Clinical Council on council priorities and topical issues.
  • Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, as well as the board representative on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
  • Reports were noted on the following topics: ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; Strategic Plan 2024-2028 quarterly report, and the Board Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Health Equity Advisory Committee annual performance report.

The next board meeting will be held on 26 May 2026 at Kilcoy Hospital.

The Metro North Board held its meeting at the heritage listed Edith Cavell building Herston and met staff from Metro North Office of Research and our strategic institutes – Heart and Lung Institute, Herston Biofabrication Institute, Herston Infectious Diseases Institute, Jamieson Trauma Institute, and Comprehensive Breast Cancer Institute on 24 March 2026.

  • The Board acknowledged the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Jagera, Turrbul, Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples on whose lands Metro North Health delivers its services.
  • The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Chief Executive and received a paper on Critical Care Services, which includes emergency medicine and intensive care services.
  • The Board approved the revised Metro North Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which will be submitted to the Department of Premier and Cabinet for review as part of annual reporting and planning requirements for government agencies.
  • The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on People and Culture, Financial and Operations performance including work on long-stay patients in acute wards and improving patient access when they arrive via ambulance to emergency departments.
  • Other agenda items comprised: ieMR implementation readiness; Mental Health Services; and clinical governance of smaller speciality services at RBWH.
  • Update from the Chair, Metro North Clinical Council on council priorities and topical issues.
  • Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, as well as the board representative on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
  • Reports were noted on the following topics: ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; Risk and Audit Committee Chair report; and Clinical Excellence Queensland Patient Safety and Quality Report.

The next board meeting will be held on 28 April 2026 at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).

The Metro North Board held its meeting at Green Square, Fortitude Valley and met staff from Oral Health, Healthcare Excellence and Innovation and corporate teams including Finance, Digital Metro North, Corporate Information Management, Procurement and Supply, Sustainable Assets and Infrastructure, Health Funding and Data Insights, and Finance Improvement and Innovation Team on 24 February 2026

  • The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Chief Executive and received a presentation on Cancer Care Services.
  • The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on People and Culture, Financial and Operations performance.
  • Other agenda items comprised: Metro North Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Clinical Services Plan 2025-2030; Lady Ramsay Early Learning and Education Centre – Notice of Rating; Herston Precinct planning; and the proposal for the expansion of TPCH, part of the Queensland Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan.

  • Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, Board Consumer and Community Engagement Committee, as well as the board representative on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
  • Reports were noted on the following topics: ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; Board Committee work programs; Consumer Feedback; High and Very High Risks; and Legislative and Policy Compliance Status Update.

The Metro North Board held its meeting at STARS – Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service, Herston on 27 January 2026

A summary of the meeting is provided below.

  • The Board acknowledged the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Jagera, Turrbul, Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples on whose lands Metro North Health delivers its services.
  • Board members met consumers from the STARS Education & Research Alliance and also met with staff from various teams within STARS.
  • The Board noted reports from the Board Chair and Acting Chief Executive and approved the Risk Appetite Statement and the Sustainability Plan. The Board also noted information from Queensland Health on cancer care services and received a presentation from Queensland Ambulance Service.
  • The Board noted the Patient Safety and Quality Committee Report and reports on People and Culture, Financial and Operations performance.
  • The Chief Digital Health Officer a Strategic AI roadmap and the Board endorsed the principles of the Metro North Health Service Plan which sets out a 15 year roadmap for whole of service transformation to 2041 to deliver health care in line with projected population growth.
  • Update from the Chair Metro North Clinical Council on council priorities.
  • Updates were received from Board Committee Chairs of the Safety and Quality Committee, Finance and Performance Committee, Board Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Equity Advisory Committee, Board Consumer and Community Engagement Committee, as well as the board representatives on the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
  • Reports were noted on the following topics: Caboolture Hospital Redevelopment Project; ieMR implementation; Communications including campaigns, social media and online; and the Metro North Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Clinical Services Plan 2025-2030.
