What is happening?

Demolition work near Caboolture Hospital main entry (21 August – October 2020)

Site possession of the Caboolture Hospital transit lounge and two ambulance bays located on the western side of the emergency ambulance drop-off occurred Friday, 21 August.

This reduced the number of ambulance bays directly outside the Emergency Department (ED) to four bays, however an additional two ambulance bays have been installed opposite the existing ambulance bays to ensure there are six bays in close proximity to ED.

A perimeter fence has been installed around the construction site for security and safety, and to minimise construction impacts.

Demolition works within this site and installation of inground services have now commenced and are scheduled to take approximately one week to complete.

An overhead gantry will be installed into the main entry over the course of two nights (25th and 26th August). This will provide safe public access to the hospital while future demolition activities are underway.

Works will include:

  • Demolition of the curved wall running alongside Caboolture Hospital ambulance bays (located outside Caboolture Hospital Emergency Department)
  • Demolition of concrete slab outside Caboolture Hospital transit lounge (west of the Emergency Department)
  • Installation of inground services on the hospital’s ring road
  • Needle dispensing machine at the front of the hospital will move to Community Health
  • Assembly and lifting operations for the gantry structures.

What to expect:

  • Neighbours may experience some noise, dust and vibration during the demolition phase
  • Some pedestrian and traffic diversion along the hospital ring road
  • Minor pedestrian delays entering/exiting the hospital during lifting operations of the gantry
  • Active traffic management in place, emergency vehicle access will be prioritised.

Ongoing changes to traffic movement around the hospital ring road (August – October 2020)

As part of the redevelopment works, pedestrians and motorists will experience ongoing changes to traffic conditions along the hospital ring road.

Single lane traffic will always be maintained with traffic control in place to ensure the safe and adequate flow of both traffic and pedestrian movement.

Visitors to the hospital may experience some minor delays due to lane closures and truck movement around the construction site.

What to expect:

  • Some pedestrian and traffic diversion along the hospital ring road
  • Active traffic management in place, emergency vehicle access will be prioritised.

Temporary main entry works (September 2020)

Work continues to create a new temporary main entry into Caboolture Hospital.

Located at the back of the hospital, the temporary main entry and new temporary public carpark are due to open in late September 2020.

Once the temporary main entry opens, all non-urgent patients and visitors should enter the hospital via the temporary main entry, with vehicle access via the All Weather Access Road off Mewett Street or via Bury Street.

The temporary main entry includes a new patient drop-off/pick-up zone, a food truck, a volunteer’s booth and directional signage.

Emergency patient drop-off, including mothers in active labour, will still be located at the front of the hospital with vehicle access off McKean Street. A new short-term emergency drop-off zone is being installed out the front of the carpark, with all long term parking located at the back of the hospital.

Works will include:

  • Construction of a new drop-off/pick-up zone, a covered walkway and a volunteer’s booth
  • Installation of new footpaths to accommodate the temporary main entry
  • Installation of new signage, street lighting and security cameras.

What to expect:

  • Minimal disruption to nearby neighbours
  • Some traffic diversions will be in place throughout September.

Ongoing road works along McKean Street (August 2020 – February 2021)

Work continues along McKean Street to prepare for a new signalised intersection that will service the Caboolture Hospital site. The bus stop (ID 310304) on McKean Street has moved West to a new temporary location. Construction activity currently taking place includes:

  • Permanent removal of on-street parking
  • Installation of a new water main
  • Installation of new footpaths.

What to expect:

  • Neighbours may experience some noise, dust and vibration during excavation phase
  • Temporary closures of the main footpath bridge between the hospital main entry and McKean Street. Pedestrians entering the hospital campus via McKean Street will be required to enter from the western end, traversing past Mental Health to the hospital’s main entry
  • Some pedestrian and traffic diversion along McKean Street
  • Two-way traffic will always be maintained.
