New Emergency Department Pedestrian Access

From Monday 12 October until Thursday 15 October 2020 our project team will be busy installing a new covered walkway connecting the emergency drop-off zone to the front entry into the hospital.

This gantry will remain in place for the duration of the redevelopment project to ensure the safety and separation of patients and visitors entering/exiting the hospital.

What to expect:

  • Lifting activities to be undertaken at night.
  • Increase in construction activity and vehicles.
  • Periodic noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.

Demolition Works Continue – Front of Hospital and the old Paediatric Outpatients building

With the Fire Stair demolition complete, demolition works are now moving to the deconstruction of the awning at the front of the hospital along with the demolition of the old Paediatric Outpatients building.

From Monday 12 October, elements of the awning located at the front of the hospital will be deconstructed, this involves removal of roof sheeting and other minor elements.  Towards the end of October, deconstruction will move towards removal of major structural elements.

From Thursday 15 October, demolition works will commence to remove the old Paediatric Outpatients department and the old fluoroscopy / mammography rooms.  The Paediatric Department relocated to the Specialist Outpatients building in 2018 and fluoroscopy / mammography was recently relocated to new space within the hospital adjoining Medical Imaging.

What to expect:

  • Increase in construction activity including demolition, saw cutting and excavation.
  • Periodic hammering noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.
  • Machinery will only be switched on when required, to minimise noise.
  • Noise and vibration monitoring will be in place.
  • Hammering activities will typically take place between 6:30am and 8:30am daily.
  • Some night works will be required to facilitate the removal of overhead canopy at the front of the hospital.

Progress made on New Site Accommodation

From Monday 12 October, a new gantry will be installed to support the second level of the new site accommodation. Works will commence on the installation of inground services that will support the buildings operations.

What to expect:

  • Increase in construction activity and vehicles in the area.
  • Single lane closures for shed installation and ongoing inground services work.
  • Two way traffic flow will be maintained under traffic control.
  • Periodic noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.

New Screening Mammography Room

The new Screening Mammography Room, containing fluoroscopy and mammography services, is now open! This facility has relocated within the Medical Imaging department on the ground floor to make way for the new clinical services building.

McKean Street Works – Southern Side (October – November)

Installation of HV conduits and stormwater pits and pipe are continuing this week along the southern side of McKean Street.

These works are due to be completed by mid-November 2020.

What to expect:

  • Footpath closure with alternative access routes to/from the hospital, temporary bus stop and shopping centre.
  • Increase in construction activity and vehicles.
  • Periodic noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.

Construction Hours

All activities are scheduled during approved site hours – Monday to Friday 6am – 6:30pm.

Specific works may be conducted outside of these construction hours to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and to minimise impacts to traffic and hospital access, and will be notified accordingly. Activities are dependent on weather and site conditions and are subject to change.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during construction.
