Clinical audiologist Heidi and the Audiology team are like Santa's elves, working hard and providing a range of diagnostic tests for infants and children.

"Hearing is really important for children to be able to develop normal speech and language skills, and finding hearing loss early helps children reach their full potential," Heidi says.

"A referral from your GP is all that we need if you are worried about your child’s hearing or speech and language development.

"As someone with a genetic hearing loss who wears hearing aids, I know first-hand the importance of early detection and management of hearing loss.”

14-year-old Miya visits the Children's Ward at Caboolture Hospital once every two months for an infusion. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease, she had her treatment transferred from Brisbane to Caboolture earlier this year.

A transfer to a more local hospital has made her procedure time shorter and more convenient for her family travelling with her, whilst also freeing up some time for her to write a letter to Santa this visit.

"Christmas for me is spending time with family; nanny cooks and we enjoy sweets, playing games, and I have fun memories of my cousin and I dancing for the family.

Having a procedure at this time of year might be overwhelming for your child, but that added layer of missing out on Christmas at home is something Lucy is here to help with. 😬

Child Life Therapist Lucy will be at Caboolture over the festive period, talking with children, their parents and siblings around having procedures, providing preparation, comfort and distraction if it's required as part of her role.

"It can be quite overwhelming for children walking into a clinical environment, and Christmas time adds that extra layer of anxiety," says Lucy.

"My job is to provide play opportunities as well as to help make families' hospital experience a more understood process and reduce the stress of the unknown."

If you're a Caboolture-local expecting a new baby under the Christmas tree this year, there's a high chance that Deb, Di and Steph from the Caboolture Maternity Unit could be helping you through your journey this silly season. 👶🧑‍🎄

Deb and the whole Maternity team share how the smaller-sized hospital can give families extra opportunities when having their baby a little closer to home.

"This is a unique space where all of our midwives are skilled in multiple areas," shares Deb.

"Having five maternity service areas and three MGP teams within the hospital means there's continuity of care, and our midwives often see our families a number of times throughout their pregnancy, birth and post-natal period."
