Gender Services
We work with each person to:
- Clarify their unique gender-related goals, whether the person experiences gender dysphoria gender incongruence
- Create an individualised treatment plan involving appropriate members of the clinical team
- Provide gender-affirming treatments that are safe and align with the patient’s goals
Our multidisciplinary team includes:
Medical doctors
An Endocrinologist and GP with Special Interest (GPwSI), who provide:
- Education and counselling regarding the impact of gender-affirming medical interventions on health and fertility, including the safest timing of these interventions
- Commencement of Gender-Affirming Hormones (where appropriate) and a maximum of two medical reviews after commencement
- Period suppression (where appropriate)
- Referral to other members of the MDT (see below)
Please note: We do not provide indefinite ongoing medical care. Your usual GP (or the GP who referred you to the Service) is responsible for taking over hormone prescriptions, blood test monitoring and ongoing care once you have been discharged from the Service
Social Work
- Initial assessment that focuses on you, your gender transition goals, and any other information that helps us to understand who you are and in what way we might be able to support you in your gender transition.
- Support in understanding and linking with other resources in the community that might benefit you
- Support in thinking about your treatment goals and making sure you can provide informed consent for GAHT.
Psychology
- ssessment of mental health, and your capacity to consent to medical treatment
- Psychotherapy in relation to your gender identity and transition
Psychiatry
- Assessment of Gender Dysphoria for patients who are under 18 years
- Specialist assessment and treatment, where relevant to a patient’s gender identity and transition
- Assessment and report for gender-affirmation surgery
Speech pathology
- Voice and communication modification services to align with your gender identity.
