Junior and Senior House Officer (PGY2+)2023-03-20T11:51:36+10:00

Junior and Senior House Officer (PGY2+)

We provide training, support and a career pathway in a world class facility. PGY2 are often referred to as Junior House Officers (JHO) and PGY3+ as Senior House Officers (SHO).

How to apply

There are two recruitment processes undertaken yearly to fill vacant house officer positions at the RBWH:

QH RMO Campaign – to start in line with the clinical year

Each year Queensland Health runs a campaign to recruit resident medical officers (RMOs) for positions across the state.

The RBWH advertises to fill the following house officer positions via the Campaign:

  • Medical pool (rotational)
  • Non-rotational SHO positions e.g. Critical Care SHO

For more information on the application process for JHO and SHO positions at the RBWH please go to the ‘Participating Hospitals’ page on the RMO Campaign website.

Mid-Year Recruitment Campaign – to start as/when available throughout the year

Separate to the RMO Campaign, the RBWH also advertises between December and February each year to fill house officer vacancies in the medical pool (rotational) only. The advert is published on several platforms including SmartJobs and Seek.

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital offers Junior and Senior House Officer rotations that are packaged into streams to create a pathway for your training requirements and career decision-making.

Some of these streams provide house officers with the opportunity to undertake secondments at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital and rural placements at facilities within the South West and Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services.
