Costs
Gender Services
How much do appointments at the Gender Service cost?
There are no fees to attend appointments at the Gender Service. You can request to attend your appointment via telehealth or face-to-face; if you need to change (whether you attend from one appointment type to another), please contact the Gender Service administration before your appointment date so they can let your clinician know of the change.
How much does gender- affirming hormone therapy cost?
Most hormones are available on the PBS and cost between $7 (if people have a Health Care Card) and $40 per month per hormone. If you do not have a Medicare card, hormones will be more expensive than this.
Testosterone is only available on the PBS if prescribed in consultation with a non-GP specialist (Endocrinologist, Sexual Health Physician or Urologist).
How much does gender- affirming surgery cost?
The Gender Service does not provide gender affirming surgery.
There are significant costs associated with surgery, depending on the procedure and surgeon. Gender affirming surgery is primarily provided by private surgeons. The Gender Service does not accept referrals for gender-affirming surgery. Your GP will need to refer you to a private surgeon for this type of care.
