Review appointments
Gender Services
Before your medical review appointment
The medical doctor will give you a blood test form and instructions at your first appointment if you are prescribed hormones. The doctor needs to be able to check these results to adjust your hormone doses. Please have your blood test a week prior to your appointment to allow enough time for the result to be back in time for your appointment.
The medical doctors cannot write new blood test forms for you in between your appointments. You will need to make an appointment with your GP for this. Your GP needs to copy the Gender Service at RBWH into the results.
Please tell the Gender Service administration staff if you have not had your blood test so that your appointment can be rescheduled.
What happens if I lose my script or need a new one before my hormone review appointment?
The medical doctors will provide you with enough repeats of your medication to last you until your next appointment. If you lose your script, the medical doctors cannot write new scripts for your hormones between your appointments. You will need to make an appointment with your GP if you lose your script and require another.
If you have been prescribed hormones, the medical doctor will send a letter to your GP after your first appointment discussing the medication name and dose. If you see a different GP to the one who referred you, they will not have this information.
Can I have a support person come with me?
Yes. You are welcome to include a support person (including support workers, partner, family members or others) in your appointments. You should be comfortable sharing personal and confidential information with any support person, that may be discussed as part of your appointment.
