Dr John Rowell
Director, Haemophilia Centre, Cancer Care Services, RBWH
Dr John Rowell is Director of Haematology at Pathology Queensland and Director of Haemophilia Centre at Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. After Haematology training at Geelong Hospital, Alfred Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he commenced as a Haematologist at Royal Brisbane Hospital in Jan 1984. He was chair for the RCAPA Transfusion Serology QAP for many years and a Board member of RCPA QAP Pty Ltd fifteen years. He was a member of the Medical Advisory Panel of HFA, member of executive and Chairman of Australian Haemophilia Centre Directors Organisation He is a past member of ASBT Council, Advisory Council to Board of ARCBS and examiner in Haematology for RCPA. In 2003 he received the Ron Sawers award from HFA for contribution to Haemophilia care. In 2007 he received the Peter Schiff award from the ANZSBT and in 2008 the Ruth Sanger award from ANZSBT. In 2008 he received an Australia Day Certificate of Achievement from Queensland Heath for service to the bleeding community in Qld and northern NSW. His interests have been in Haemostasis and Haemophilia care, Transfusion and establishing molecular genetic testing services within Pathology Queensland for germline and somatic disorders.
