Overview

The Cancer Care Services Medical Oncology Department provides clinical services to the Metro North Hospital and Health Service district through its staff managing patients at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, North Lakes, The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital with outreach services to Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, and Rockhampton. It is a major referral centre for gastro-intestinal, head & neck, lung, brain, kidney, prostate, gynae, bladder, skin cancers, melanoma, and breast cancers with approximately 6000 new cancer patients each year. The department serves as the statewide service for neuroendocrine tumours with lutate therapy as well as thyroid cancers, and boasts well-developed comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Teams for all tumour streams including rare tumours.

The Clinical Trials Unit is an integral part of Cancer Care Services with a team consisting of experienced and highly specialised clinicians, clinical trial coordinators and dedicated support staff who are proactive & engaged at local, national, & international levels with extensive experience in sub-specialities. The unit is co-located on the Herston campus with state of the art cancer imaging and translational research facilities. They have extensive experience in conducting all phases of clinical trials, including phase I capacity, along with a growing teletrials portfolio.
