Our teams at Metro North Health work side-by-side every day to care for patients, but for tonight, Tracy and Phil will be on opposing teams as QLD and NSW clash in the first Mens State of Origin Game for 2025🏉

💪 Often referred to as Australian sports greatest rivalry, the State of Origin Series pits mate against mate, and state against state. Game One of the mens series is set to kick off at 8:05pm this evening here in Cane toad country.

Phil from the Fire Safety Advisory Unit at TPCH was asked about his teams chances this year.

Bleed Blue, New South Wales by three!

Staunch Queensland supporter Tracy, representing the finance department at RBWH, had a different opinion.

I know the maths, she said, nothing else to say but QUEENSLANDER!

🪳🐸 Regardless of the outcome at the game tonight, there will be maroon and blue chants throughout the streets as we celebrate this great rivalry.

🌈 Wednesday 28 May is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day, as part of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month.

Jelena, an Advanced Social Worker at RBWH, hopes to help shine a light on domestic and family violence in LGBTQ communities, so that everyone is #SeenAndBelieved

Openly showing our support for the LGBTQIA+ community is vital. Many people experience minority stress or lose important relationships after coming out — and with higher rates of domestic and family violence in the community, this can be even more impactful on their health. Visibility is one meaningful way we can show we care and ensure everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

Together we can send a clear message, giving hope and courage to victims and survivors. ❤️‍🩹

When I moved here from England when I was around 10, I had to put my shoes away because no one wore them.

I moved from Ballina to the big smoke which was a bit of a shock. I was always very busy, very fit. I played soccer and took up surfing.

Slow down, and if you have them, enjoy the joy of having kids. I have two kids, six grandkids and two great grandkids, and they are a delight, as well as my dog Sooki.

The Australian New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) recently hosted their annual conference in Christchurch. Among those attending was RBWH physiotherapist, Elise. 😊

Throughout her career, Elise has had a passion for helping patients recover and mobilise, an important step in recovering from a stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Mobilising ICU patients is critical to patient recovery, Elise said.

Early mobilisation reduces the risk of ICU-acquired weakness, improves functional outcomes and can even shorten the length of their hospital stay.

Over the last two years, Elise has turned this passion into research across 10 hospitals in Queensland, including RBWH, on how to safely mobilise ICU patients while receiving medication to support their blood pressure.

Elise was invited to present on her studies at the ANZICS conference and was awarded the Best Allied Health Paper award for her work.

👏 Congratulations, Elise on your award and research on this important area of critical care.
